Hi, I’m Jason Rathbun, owner of Ruby Home Remodel. I’m a licensed contractor on South Whidbey Island, and I live here with my wife and our young family. Ruby Woodworks and Ruby Plumbing are mine too. I’ve been building since 2002, and I’m on site every day.
I grew up on a farm in rural Eastern Washington and wanted that kind of place for my own family. We found it on South Whidbey in 2019, and it’s home now. We’re raising our family here and running our businesses here. We love the outdoors and the people, and we’re invested in being part of the community.
How I got here
Building and fixing things was part of everyday life on that farm, and it led me into the trades. I’ve worked in construction since 2002, in the carpenters union, for residential builders, and in cabinet and custom furniture shops. I’ve owned woodworking businesses and taught woodworking and carpentry for several years.
I started Ruby Home Remodel to bring construction and woodworking together in a small company where I stay directly involved in the work. I like working with homeowners and seeing a job through from early planning to the finished space. I also like a problem to solve. Older homes and unexpected conditions come with every remodel, and figuring those out is the part I enjoy most.
How a Project runs
I’m on site every day, so I know what’s happening on your project. I’m also your main point of contact. We communicate clearly, stay straightforward about costs and schedules, pay attention to the details, and deal with problems as they come up.
We have our own crew that handles much of the day-to-day construction and carpentry. Plumbing runs through Ruby Plumbing LLC, and we work with trusted local professionals for electrical, HVAC, and other specialty trades. That keeps us closely involved while we coordinate the pieces of a larger project.
Licensed, bonded, and insured
Ruby Home Remodel and Ruby Plumbing are licensed, bonded, and insured in Washington State. I have a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Washington University and more than 20 years in the trades, and I keep training in woodworking, cabinetry, and finishing.
